Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti – The Adventure Begins

We begin our journey from Arusha and head toward the Serengeti.

The road itself becomes part of the adventure. As we leave Arusha behind, the landscape changes gradually, taking us through rural communities and the dramatic scenery of the Great Rift Valley and Ngorongoro Highlands.

As we approach Serengeti National Park, the scenery opens into enormous grasslands.

This is when the feeling of being on safari truly begins.

We continue toward Central Serengeti, keeping our eyes open for wildlife along the way. Depending on the season and current conditions, we may encounter giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, elephants, antelopes, buffaloes, and predators.

Our first afternoon game drive allows us to begin exploring the Serengeti before settling into our accommodation for the evening.

Day 2: Following the Migration Toward Northern Serengeti

After breakfast, we continue north.

Along the way, the scenery changes.

Day 3: Northern Serengeti – Searching for the Mara River Crossing

We spend the day exploring the northern Serengeti and the areas around the Mara River, looking for signs of active migration.

The most exciting moments often begin quietly.

A large herd may gather near the riverbank. Thousands of wildebeest may appear to be moving in one direction before suddenly stopping.

Then they wait.

Sometimes they move away.

Sometimes another group arrives.

And sometimes, when conditions are right, the first animals begin moving toward the water.

If a crossing takes place while we are in the area, we may witness one of the most extraordinary scenes in the natural world.

As we leave the Serengeti behind, the scenery gradually changes from the wide open savannah plains to the greener and more elevated landscapes of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

The journey itself remains part of the safari experience, with opportunities to spot wildlife along the way and enjoy the changing scenery.

By late afternoon, we arrive in the Ngorongoro area and settle into our accommodation, surrounded by the cool highland atmosphere.

After several unforgettable days in the Serengeti, we prepare for one final highlight the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater on the following day.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – A Spectacular Final Day

We begin our final safari day early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater.

The crater is one of Tanzania's most remarkable natural landscapes. From the crater rim, the view is breathtaking, with the vast floor stretching below us.

Once we descend, the environment changes again.

The crater supports an impressive concentration of wildlife, and game viewing can be excellent throughout the day. We may encounter large herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest, elephants, hippos, lions, hyenas, and, with luck, the critically endangered black rhino.

The experience is very different from following the migration in Serengeti.

Here, we are exploring a contained volcanic ecosystem where grasslands, wetlands, woodland, and other habitats support an extraordinary range of life.

After our crater game drive and picnic lunch, we begin the journey back to Arusha.

By the time we arrive, you will have experienced three very different sides of northern Tanzania within five days.
